Title: NASCAR looking at changes to Chase

One change that seems to be gaining support in the garage would be to make the Chase an elimination-style format. Under one scenario, 15 drivers would make the 10-race playoff. After two races, the field would be trimmed to 10. After three more races, the field would be cut to five. After two more, the field would shrink to three drivers, who would then battle for the championship over the last three races. One other idea that's being thrown around is to include a road-course event in the 10-race playoff. If these are truly the best drivers in the world, which is what NASCAR continually pronounces, then the ability to turn right and left should be included when determining a champion

Thoughts?

I really dont think this is good way to decide a champion

So they would reset the points again every elimination for the non-eliminated drivers? That's kinda stupid tbh. I do, however, love the idea of a road course in the Chase. Need to have every type of track in the Chase to really crown the true Champion imo.

They should run more road courses anyways

so it basically sounds like the countdown they do in the NHRA, which is cool for them i guess, but nascar needs to stick with a plan for their deal instead of changing it up every year or 2

I'm hoping that's why they are running the Nationwide series on more Road Courses. I think they are testing the waters at Montreal, Mexico City, and Road America with the Nationwide series, and if it works out good for them, they will add one or two of those dates to the Cup schedule.

NHRA no longer does an elimination during the Countdown. I think they did that for a year or two then went to a more "Chase" like one.

The Busch series hasn't gone to Mexico City since 07, there were a lot of problems with shit being stolen (in one case, an actual car, if I'm correct), and drivers "somehow" not having valid passports, random shit like that.

But I agree, I heard some rumor when I was at Barber this year for Indy/Grand Am that Nascar may be looking for a Roadie in the South East, and Barber and Road Atlanta were candidates. just a spoken rumor though, so don't take it to heart, but it would be beyond awesome for Nascar to race at Barber, the place is perfect for stock cars. It wouldn't surprise me at all if the Nationwide sereis hits one of those tracks in the next couple of years.

road atlanta would be sick too. i love that place

I think the elimination style would just get NASCAR closer to the other major sports' playoffs that they so desperately seem to want to imitate. One bad race can knock you out with no hope of recovery, just like in the NFL.

Heres a radical idea.

You race for 36 races, the person with the most points at the end of the season is the champion.

That just makes too much sense.

NASCAR is retarded. 15 drivers in the chase? Eliminations? I don't have a huge problem with the chase, but it was fine with ten drivers and the orignial format. 15 drivers is way too much.

CEfanDP99 - July 8, 2010 04:24 AM (GMT)
elimination=bad idea

You have to remember, it was because Jr. missed the chase and was 12th when it started. Sooo, to prevent that, NA$CAR added 2 spots so their golden boy wouldn't miss it again.

They failed however, because now he finishes 19th. Which is why they're going to 15... maybe to lure him in.
